Wireless telemetry system ABTS-EM

Wireless telemetry system “ABTS-EM” is designed to provide operational control of the wellbore trajectory during inclined and horizontal drilling with hydraulic downhole engines; data transmission is performed via a wireless electromagnetic communication channel. “ABTS-EM” is available in several modifications vary in external diameter, collar materials and declared operational temperature.
In contrast to “BTS”, “ABTS-EM” construction is free of tapered thread. Which require torque wrench 1.8-2.0 t/m while bottom-hole assembly (BHA) mounting. This value is close to what happen during drilling process. We replaced tapered thread with tool joint thread Z-147 which allowed us to increase the permissible rotor torque and weight on bit. Also it made possible to enlarge the diameter of the currently used hydraulic downhole motor from 195 mm to 210 mm, as well as enlarge the bit diameter from 269.9 mm to 295 mm. Moreover, the permitted dogleg severity and the permitted rotation speed during rotary drilling have increased either.
“ABTS-EM” construction is supplied with the titanium casings “MES” instead of duraluminium ones (which are used in “BTS”). This modification helped us to improve the warranted lifetime of casings “MES” from 200 to 400 hours and the rated lifetime from 600 to 1000 hours. Also, using titanium casings “MES” allowed us to improve the permitted mud acidity range.
In “BTS” system the operational current is restricted, it’s 15-17A, but “ABTS-EM” system is equipped with the conceptually new, more powerful and reliable, generator. Its operational current is up to 50A; also it has an operation register module. This solution increases the signal accuracy level at severe geological conditions.
“ABTS-EM” is equipped with electronic borehole module MES-45, with the following advantages:
  • Improved emission power (emission current up to 50A)

  • Improved vibration resilience of the solid magnetic inclinometer

  • Using a monolithic highly durable gamma-ray logging module

  • New data transmission formats with the six-component static support

  • Automatic function of rotary drilling estimation
